Grungy Junk Journal Collage and Clusters

I've started a new grungy junk journal for 2025 and have been having lots of fun making things to fill it up. I decided on a soft cover journal for this one and have a Junk Journal Playlist on my channel to make it easy for you to navigate if you're interested specifically in this type of craft. You can find that Playlist here. You'll find lots of videos there sharing different junk journals I've made and all the goodies you can fill it with like hidden paperclips, clusters, postal ephemera, altered playing cards, specimen cards to name a few.

So what is a Junk Journal and what's it for?

Basically a junk journal is made from materials you might otherwise throw away. Think of envelopes, receipts, paper bags, shopping tags, old book pages, and so much more. Some, like me, take it even further and take pages from old song books, ledgers, dictionaries and various patterned papers in my stash that are just sitting there waiting to be used. It just feels good to use things I have rather than them ending up in the trash heap.

As far as the purpose of a junk journal, that's completely up to you. Some use it as a base for photos and memory keeping, others use them as journals/diaries, a handwritten recipe book, and sometimes they're just pretty books to flip through and adore. The images and textures are so satisfying in these journals!

Speaking of texture, I love to sew in my journal! I recently did a video sharing the things I like to sew into mine. You'll see that in the playlist when you go there.

Overall, I feel like the process of making a junk journal is therapeutic. I'm creating, I'm touching things, experimenting, stamping, coffee staining, crumpling paper, working with vellum, stitching... What could be more fun and satisfying?

Also, there are SO MANY creators out there making fabulous journals and videos. Be sure to comb YouTube and you'll be delighted by what  you find. Some of my personal favorites are the following, but there are so many more I love. I'd love to hear WHO you like too! Also, I'd love to know if your are a junk journaler? If so, do you always have an end-goal, a purpose? I'd love to hear!
