12 Tags of 2015 - My June Art Journal Pages

The more I create art journal pages, the more comfortable I get, and the more fun I have. Thanks to those of you who visit often and have left me encouraging comments on my art journal blog posts. Sometimes it's hard to expose myself this way, because art is personal and what makes me happy might make others cringe. But more and more, I'm stepping out of that fear and it's all thanks to you. So thank you again for your encouragement. It means the world to me.

As many of you already know, I'm participating in Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2015 in the form of art journal pages. This month, Tim created this awesome coffee tag with a great plaid background technique...

So much great texture and embellishment!

Since I'm doing art journal pages, the embellishments get sacrificed, but that's what challenges me and makes it really fun. Gotta keep my pages fairly flat, so I'm always looking for ways to work around it and still do the techniques justice.

Here are my June pages. I used the small Dylusions art journal and made some color changes.

Since I knew I was going with shades of blue for my background, I spritzed Iced Spruce Distress Stain as a base. I don't yet have the Custom Blend pad and don't do re-inkers (a story for another time) so I simply stenciled three different colors through the Stripes stencil. Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon, and Faded Jeans. I love Tim's technique though, so be sure to check it out.

Rather than a full plaid effect for my background, I made mine more random, moving the stencil around the pages. Then I stenciled the Chevron with Mown Lawn across the top.

Then stamped the hearts from the Watercolor stamp set using Red Geranium archival ink.

Next I stenciled the Splatters with Walnut Stain Distress ink, and inked around the edges of the pages.

From the Grunge Cirque stamp set, I stamped images with Black archival ink. These are placed strategically for the cut-apart pieces coming up next.

Onto Ranger's Mixed Media Cardstock, I stamped, colored and cut out the images you see here. The butterflies are from the Watercolor set, and the coffee stuff is from Fresh Brewed Blueprint. And of course, I used lots of Distress Markers to color them in. The cup with the clear lid and straw has a frosty look to it. This was achieved by first coloring with markers, then going over the clear lid area with the Picket Fence Distress Marker. Pretty cool. (Get it?)

I got so carried away with my process, I stopped taking photos and finished my pages. But really, it's just some gluing and then a bit more stamping in areas as needed.

Here's another look...

I added some punched hearts and words and then sealed my pages with a spray of Workable Fixative. I use this just in case I want to add anything more later.

Well, thanks for stopping in. I hope you enjoyed the process. Now hop over to Tim's blog and check out all the other creations submitted based on the June tag.
