Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 22 - Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day bloggers! I hope you have a happy day full of love and sweets. We'll be on a campus tour of Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota (Florida) with Jamie for most of the day. (Hey, at least I'm with my two favorite people.)

It's time for another fun technique to try in the Compendium of Curiosities III Challenge hosted by our lovely hostess Linda Ledbetter on her blog. Each challenge comes from the wonderful book "A Compendium of Curiosities Vol. III" featuring amazing products and techniques by non-other than Tim Holtz.

Join us with your creation based on the featured technique and your project could win you an awesome prize pack from Tim and Mario and you also have a chance to win the random draw from our generous sponsor this time: The Funkie Junkie Boutique. All the details, rules and links are at the end of my post so be sure to keep reading all the way through.

The current challenge (number 22!) can be found on page 62 and is called "Dimensional Cutting Pad." I'll be honest, I didn't have this pad until this challenge so I had to run out and get one. Now I'm glad I have it in my stash. I decided to make my two favorite people each a special Valentine card.

Jamie's is on the left, Paul's on the right.

Since I've now "retired" from Close To My Heart, I decided to pay a final homage by using all their great seasonal papers, stamps and embellishments with a mix of Tim's Sizzix Alterations dies, of course. This paper collection is called "Heartstrings."

Paul's card features Lagoon colors with some pops of Cranberry. I used Fired Brick and Peacock Feathers Distress inks for inking edges.

Without giving away the Dimensional Cutting Pad technique, I'll simply share this photo which shows the final result before I began building onto it. I used the Baroque die and its compatible Mover & Shaper, plus the large heart from the Mini Hearts movers and shapers set.

I cut two more hearts and scored one down the middle (right) and the other twice:  1/16" left of center and 1/16" right of center.

I stacked these on top of the main piece.

And stitched down the center with matching thread.

I stamped my sentiment using the CTMH set "This Moment" (S1501). I believe it was the Stamp of the Month a few months ago. Those little adhesive hearts are called "Enamel Hearts."

This fun adhesive badge button is from the Heartstrings Assortment.

And there's the little cherub from the Mini Love Struck die set.

More pattern papers and stamping on the inside of the card. The Happy Valentines Day stamp is Mini Valentine (M1052).

Jamie's card features the Ornate Frame die and the small heart from Mini Hearts movers and shapers set, plus the XOXO stamp (M1054) from CTMH.

Same technique with the Dimensional Cutting Pad, just a different heart and different thread color.

There's another one of those cute badge buttons. And that little arrow is a Metal Charm also from CTMH.

Two paper strips are trimmed from the pattern paper's zip strip and used to adorn the top.

More papers and stamping dress up the inside of the card.

So, will you join us in this fun challenge? I hope so!
Let's see what you do with the Dimensional Cutting Pad.
