Cards & More Projects for June

Hello and happy Hump Day everyone. This month in my Cards & More Club, we'll be creating two cards and a fun treat holder using all sorts of great Close To My Heart products.

The featured paper pack this month is "Tommy" which is interestingly one of my favorites in this particular Idea Book. Quite masculine with its nautical theme, and distressed like I like things.

I've become a big fan of easel cards, if you haven't noticed by now. They're so easy and yet very impressive because they aren't just an ordinary card. Here I've combined Tommy papers, Tommy Assortment embellishments, and the Tommy Workshop on the Go stamp set.

I embellished this back flap just a little so I can leave enough space to write a sentiment here.

For the stopper, I layered up stamped images and a round cork shape from the Tommy Assortment. The sailboat was easy to paper piece together after stamping it in three different colors.

The main sentiment on my card was stamped and embossed with white, then flanked with little flags from the Tommy Assortment. Baker's twine hemp at the top finishes off the nautical theme nicely.

The second card is 5 x 7 inches and features June's stamp of the month "A Flowering Bunch." Even though the Tommy papers are quite masculine, you can see that using the more neutral side of the double-sided papers easily transforms it into a more feminine card. The chevron ribbon and more of the Tommy Assortment embellishments tie everything together. For a completely different look using this same stamp set and basic blueprint, check out this card I made a few weeks ago.

Sometimes embellishments have phrases or words or images that might not necessarily tie in with your project's theme. In this case, I layered a button over an anchor image, and above I layered a stamped flower over a phrase on the tiny flag.

I thought a tiny pinwheels would be fun to tie in with the pattern in the paper at the bottom of my card. They are so easy to make by hand. Simply cut a square of paper and snip a slit with your scissors from each corner to the center (but not ALL the way to the center), then fold in the points and adhere with a brad. I secured my points with a dot of glue first.

Next up is this fun treat holder which features a special seasonal stamp set called "Home of the Brave." From now through July 31st, if you purchase this stamp set $5 will go to the USO. Two other patriotic sets along with all the images in this one are available and pictured below.

From the purchase of "Courage" $3 will go toward to the USO, and from "Strong and Free" $5 will go toward the Canadian Hero Fund.

My treat box was cut from Cranberry cardstock off the Artiste Cricut cartridge (pg. 67 at 4 1/4") It's more of a popcorn box, but serves as a fun treat holder of any kind. For the striped paper panels, I simply cut a template from scrap cardstock and traced it four times. I ink distressed all the edges with Desert Sand ink before assembly.

To adorn the sides I cut rosettes from the anchor paper, then added a stamped chipboard star to the centers.

And just to be cute, I added the word Candy under the stamped phrase Land of the Free. The individually wrapped mints inside have red-white-and-blue wrappers. Perfect! I found them at my local Dollar Tree.

I attached my stamped flag onto a long wooden skewer with some tacky glue. This serves as a nice decoration when stuck down into the center of the candies. (As seen in the first photo)

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you've been inspired to create some fun patriotic and nautical themed projects today. Let me know what you think. Comments are always appreciated. Have a great day!
