Umbrella Man, meet Umbrella Woman

Tim Holtz fans know about Umbrella Man, the Sizzix Alterations die of a Charlie-Chaplanesc type of fellow. It's a die that seems to stump a lot of people. I like him, but I've had mine for over six months wondering and waiting for an opportunity to use it. Finally I decided not to over think it and just make something, anything.

So I made this card...

There he is, cut from Gray Wool card stock and again with Black, which layers behind him to make a slight shadow. I love the mustache pattern paper from Echo Park's Times & Season's pack, and the 5 & Dime paper from October Afternoon.

The gears are cut from Grungeboard and then embossed with silver, then touched up here and there with copper and gold paints, with a final rubbing of black paint wiped away with a damp towel.

Same with the key.

But this post isn't about Umbrella Man, it's about Umbrella Woman...

Isn't she fun?

I fell in love with this Jubilee paper pack from K&Company. Although photos never look as good as the original, this paper is so colorful and gorgeous. Perfect for Springtime, so Umbrella Woman got a purple raincoat with matching umbrella and some pink boats that match her rain hat.

Here's how the transformation took place. It's not complicated as you can see. Just a few nips and curves here and there. The intent was not to be literal but to have fun with it. I didn't want to completely change the die, after all. I wanted to see how close I could get to a woman with only some slight modifications.

My goal was more of a folk-art style woman. No hard details. No face. And you'll notice her feet are pointing outward, which of course isn't anatomically correct, but that's what makes it fun and quirky.

I am also loving Tim's Mini Tattered Florals Mover & Shaper die (the paper here is from Tim's Lost & Found paper pack) and the leaves are from his Autumn Gatherings Sizzix strip die. And that pretty Antique Copper decorative brad is from Close To My Heart. See the droplets of water on the leaves and flowers (and umbrella, above)? That's Liquid Glass, perfectly dry, yet nice and glossy and wet-looking.

Thanks, as always, for dropping by today and checking in on the Umbrella Woman. Enjoy your day and make something beautiful!
