Frilly & Funkie Guest Designer - Vintage Halloween

I'm thrilled to be a guest designer today over at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog with my take on the Very Vintage Halloween theme.

I've created this fun and frilly Halloween decor piece to hang on the wall, using all sorts of great Graphic 45 and Tim Holtz goodies. Let me share the steps to create one, so you can follow along and perhaps try this yourself!

Paint the surface of a Baroque Frame with Antique Linen Distress Paint. When dry, dab some Tarnished Brass Distress Paint randomly. Select an image from the Found Relatives cards. I chose this spooky looking bride. Trace the frame and cut out the image you chose, then adhere to the back of the frame. Set aside to dry.

Onto a pumpkin from Pumpkin Pieces, paint with white gesso. Once dry, paint two coats of Antique Linen. Set aside to dry. I discovered by carefully heat-setting the pumpkin, it started to bubble. What a happy accident!

Adhere papers to a Graphic 45 black ATC book box. My papers are from Graphic 45's Off To The Races collection. I've sanded the edges to distress before adhering the papers in place. Add a hardware hook to the top/back of the box's flap if you plan to hang you decor piece on a wall.
Adhere paper on the back of the box's flap as well, for strength (not shown).

Affix a Graphic 45 Shabby Chic Door Pull to the top of the flap as shown, securing with brads and metal glue.

Paint two Idea-ology Vignette Boxes with Antique Linen Distress Paint. Once dry, stick Idea-ology Industrious Sticker borders around the outer edge.

Adhere papers from Off To The Races into the box, then more papers around the outside of the box. I used Graphic 45's Hallowe'en in Wonderland.

Paint Idea-ology Letterpress Blocks with two or three coats of Antique Linen Distress Paint and adhere them into the smaller box. Add some bones and a Graphic 45 Shabby Chic metal key.

Here's a tip: Since the letterpress letters contain only one of each letter of the alphabet, if you need two O's, you can paint the Q so that it appears to be a second O. You couldn't tell, could you?

Adhere the small box into the ATC book box with several layers of foam tape to push it forward so it appears to float in the box. Add black fancy lace to the bottom edge of the box.

Adhere the framed bride into the larger vignette box. Add a key and baubles hanging from the ceiling by a Ring Fastener.

Adhere the large vignette box to the back wall of the open ATC box. Adhere a Graphic 45 Shabby Chic Clock Key to the top of the vignette box.

Fill the large vignette box with more elements. I used a Mini Lantern, the pumpkin, another clock key, and my skeleton sits in front.

I had some spare small skeletons, so I popped the head off one and placed it inside a Decorative Dome and adhered it in place in the ATC box. A few more bones are added as well.

I'll be hanging my Vintage Halloween Display on my wall over a shelf, so the Mini Lantern battery pack will have a place to sit.

Here's another look at my Very Vintage Halloween piece. It was great fun to create this with all sorts of goodies from The Funkie Junkie Boutique, one of my favorite online stores located right here in Florida.

Thanks for stopping in. Have a great day!
