Mojo Monday Valentine for Jamie

After cooking all morning for the week, I so look forward to the Mojo Monday sketch in the afternoon. (See below for one of my dishes I made this week.) For now though, check out sketch #125. I already have all the fun goodies for my daughter for Valentine's Day stowed away deep in my closet, but just needed to make her a card. So this sketch served me well for the job. At my local Michael's, I purchased this pink houndstooth pattern paper and these fun Prima flowers which look as if they're coated with white paint. The chipboard heart is from Close To My Heart as well as the stamps "Struck by Love" (B1327) and "Cherished Flourishes" (D1413). The big scallop circle is one of my QuiKutz dies to which I added some black eyelets for fun. The center of the flower is a Filigree Charm (Z1269) also from Close To My Heart, which are beautiful pewter charms with brads to affix them. Since they are metal, they are easy to color with Staz-On inks. Here I used Black Staz-on to match the card. The black cardstock background was created using my Cuttlebug Swiss Dot embossing folder, and since Close To My Heart's cardstock has a white core, it's great to sand away the embossed surface to reveal the white dots. See detailed photos below. (housekeeping tip: I keep Swiffer duster cloths on hand for sanding projects so I can do a quick wipe to clean up the dusty mess.)

Sausage and Chicken Gumbo is one of the meals we're having this week. It's a little chilly here in Florida this week, so a good-old stew like this is great. It's quick, easy, healthy and delicious. All four of my favorite features of a recipe. It has turkey kielbasa and chicken, plus okra and other veggies. I serve it on white rice. (I know brown is better for ya, but I just love our sticky Japanese rice.) If you'd like the recipe, it's from Cooking Light at this link.
