Just for Fun: Candy Jar Birthday Card

Happy Friday, everyone. It's been a busy few weeks getting stuff ready for Graphic 45 and the upcoming Paper Arts Show in Illinois, but I snagged some fun goodies at Stamp Fest in Lakeland, FL a few weekends ago and I finally had time to play with them today. Thought I'd share...

This card is 5" x 7", my favorite size for the large area to create in. It was a little tough to photograph that great candy jar nicely, but keep reading because I got a good close-up.

Ya know, I really don't need another darn stamp, papers or dies in my studio, but I still ended up spending almost $200 at Stamp Fest! Sometimes things just call to you, ya know? Like this "Candy Jars" die set from My Favorite Things/Die-namics. I love it and know that I'll use this one for a long time. And on the way home, we stopped at Violettes and I somehow managed to restrain and purchase only 8 sheets of paper, so that was a small miracle in itself. A few sheets of October Afternoon's older collection "Cakewalk." A some Basic Grey "Tea Garden."

After using the Tim Holtz's Frosted Film last week on my Compendium Crew submission (see this post) I had it fresh in my mind for this candy jar die. I adhered a square of Frosted Film to a square of Clearly For Art clear modeling film (links for these products at the same post), then cut the lid and the base of the jar from Tim's new Metallic Cardstock Collection, using the silver.

I punched a whole bunch of 3/8" circles from various Close To My Heart cardstock colors and sent them through my X sticker maker by Xyron, then stuck them to the back of the frosted "glass" piece to resemble candies (or gum balls, depending on how you look at it).

I popped up all pieces here with low-level foam squares, careful to not let any show through the candies.

You can click on this photo to get a nice close-up of how it turned out. Fun, right?

I still love banners, don't you? Such an easy and pretty embellishment. I punched these pennants using my new Stampin' Up banner punch. Love that little guy! I added some waxed twine in this great Juniper color to the jar and to the banner, and glued some bows to finish them both off.

Here's another look at the finished card. I stamped the "Happy Day" using the Stampin' Up "Banner Banter" set. And the cardstock for my card? I scored lucky at my local Tuesday Morning a few weeks ago and got this pack of 20 sheets of Core'dinations Red Pepper cardstock for only $2.99. Sweet! It's the perfect orangey-red.

Well, thanks for checking me out today. I love it when I get a breather to create something just for fun like this. Enjoy your weekend and I hope you take the time to create something fun too!
