February Cards & More Projects

This month's club projects are all about the BEE. Close To My Heart's new Buzz & Bumble paper is one of my all-time favorites this season. And what makes it even better are the new stamp sets and embellishments with bees. Just love them! My Cards & More Club is making two cards and this fun hexagon gift box made from the Cricut Artiste cartridge.

The first card might be familiar since it was in my Stamp of the Month blog post. It measures 5 x 7 inches and you can read all about it here. I also show you a little secret on making your own faux wood embellishments there, so be sure to check it out.

The second card measures 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches and follows Pattern 27 from Close To My Heart's "Make it From Your Heart" how-to book. This is a great booklet that provides patterns for not only cards but scrapbook layouts as well. For only $7.95, this is a must-have to get your creative juices flowing. Beautiful artwork fills the pages along with tips and alternative options for the patterns.

Here I've used the stamp set in the Buzz & Bumble Workshop on the Go Scrapbooking Kit which also includes the Buzz & Bumble Assortment pack of embellishments: the wooden flowers and bees, plus these great faux wax seals with embossed images on them like this bee. I used alcohol markers to color the stamped images.

The third project is this fun hexagon gift box. From the Cricut Artiste cartridge (pg. 48) I cut the box and lid at 3 inches. The lid is Colonial White and the box is Cocoa. The big beautiful bee is from "Quick Cards - Bumble Bee" stamp set.

Here's how I made the lid...

With the lid piece lying flat, I grabbed a bunch of stamp pads (Honey, Creme Brulee, Goldrush, Sunset and Autumn Terracotta) and the new "Honeycomb" stamp set and began stamping, masking off where the flaps of the lid are. (I use a post-it note)

I rotated the lid and moved to the left as I stamped the next portion.

and so on...

and so on...

and so on...

...until I got all the way around. I don't know how it worked out so well. I guess it might have something to do with math. Don't ask me

I left the center space unstamped because I knew I was going to cover it up later. Then I stamped the flaps with Cocoa ink using the new "Distressed Backgrounds" stamp set.

The base of the box has no tabs to keep it together, just flaps that fold up, so I reinforced the joints with a border strip that I scored down the middle, then adhered to each flap to hold them together. I used super sticky tape for this step.

To create a little easel back for my card perched on top of the box, I cut a strip of Colonial White card stock 1 x 5 inches and scored at 1 1/2" then at 3" then at 4 1/2" and folded it up to make this triangle.

Which then got adhered to the back of my card.

You can either adhere the card to the box's top or just set it there. I glued it, then added some embellishment around it.

  3. I made the Hex box as an explosion box, but I love how you sealed the edges to make a closed box. Love the way the images stamped so beautifully.
